MEET ARTIST MEGAN SHAY

Tarpon Art Guild’s gallery, 161 E. Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs will feature artist Megan Shay for the month of February.

Megan Shay is a sculptor, photographer and painter who lives in Palm Harbor, FL, and Ithaca, NY.  She trained as a ceramic sculptor and poet at Wells College and received her MFA from Carnegie Mellon in Sculpture.  She turned to photography when her career veered away from the Arts in the mid-1990’s.  During Covid, she studied pastel painting with Shawn Dell Joyce.  Her work is now primarily pastel or iPad paintings and art photography.  Shay paints both en plein air and in the studio.

Shay is known for her luminous color palettes, atmospheric compositions, and the quiet emotional resonance that runs through her work.  With a deep sensitivity to light and texture, Shay transforms ordinary scenes into celebrations of everyday mystery and magic.

Working primarily in soft pastels, Shay draws inspiration from the subtle shifts of natural light and the delicate interplay of color found in the world around her.  Her layered technique builds depth without losing the medium’s inherent softness, creating paintings that feel both immediate and contemplative.Whether capturing the glow of dusk on water or the quiet geometry of a spring field, her work reflects an attentive observation of beauty in the understated.

Shay’s pastel pieces have been praised for their emotional clarity, craftsmanship, and sense of calm.  She continues to explore the expressive potential of pastel through ongoing series that blend realism with abstract sensibilities.  Her work has been exhibited in local and regional shows, and her paintings are held in private collections.

A reception will be held Saturday, February 7, 5-7pm. Please come and meet Megan and celebrate her incredible art.  The general public is welcome.
